SureSmile® clear aligners prove that effective orthodontic treatment doesn’t have to be difficult. These ingenious appliances have helped millions straighten their teeth and achieve better-looking smiles, and they can help you too.
Do you have crooked teeth, significant gaps in your smile, or a misaligned bite? Do you dislike the idea of wearing traditional wire braces? If so, SureSmile® clear aligners provide a discreet alternative to straightening your teeth. Using a series of custom invisible aligners, SureSmile® can correct severe gaps and misalignments in less time than traditional braces. Additionally, they are barely noticeable and fully removable, allowing you to eat and maintain regular oral hygiene without the hassle of cleaning around braces.
SureSmile® aligners are custom-made based on models of your current teeth and your desired result. You will switch to new aligners about every two weeks, with each set gradually shifting your teeth until you achieve your final results, typically within about two years.
To find out if you’re a candidate for SureSmile®, please contact our office or visit Porters Neck Dental Aesthetics in Wilmington, NC.
The SureSmile® process begins with taking photographs of your teeth and face, dental impressions of your teeth, and X-rays. These records are then sent to SureSmile® along with detailed instructions on how we want the final result to look.
SureSmile® will scan the impressions to create a 3D model of the teeth and work with your dentist to ensure the mold is precisely proportioned. This step is completed before the treatment starts to provide a clear image of the expected outcome.
Once finalized, the trays are made and sent to your dentist’s office. Each set of aligners in the series needs to be worn continuously for about two weeks and should only be removed when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. You must visit your dentist every four to six weeks to ensure the treatment progresses as planned. The treatment is considered complete once all the aligners in the series have been worn. The standard treatment time, which depends on the case’s complexity, usually ranges from six months to one year. However, wearing a retainer after the treatment is recommended to prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original positions. Similar to braces, the length of time the retainers should be worn may vary.
There are several differences between SureSmile® and traditional braces. Ultimately, the decision is yours, but introducing SureSmile® to the market has provided a more efficient and less painful way to straighten teeth.
Teen and adult patients requiring mild to moderate orthodontic corrections can use SureSmile®. This includes patients with crooked and misaligned teeth or teeth that feature noticeable spacing problems. SureSmile® can even help patients with minor bite issues. However, not all orthodontic issues can be treated with SureSmile®. More extensive problems will require additional treatment.
